The GREAT SWAMP QUILT, made by members of FrOGS in honor of the Friends of the Great Swamp 25th Anniversary in November 2015, has been on display at the Dover Plains Library for the month of March.
On Wednesday, March 22, 6:30 PM, the ladies who created the quilt will present their program, “Why the Great Swamp is so Great” in the Library Community Room. There will be brief talks about the swamp itself and the making of the quilt. Then the 8-minute film “The Great Swamp” produced by Parker/Hodges Productions and narrated by James Earl Jones will be shown.
There will be time for questions and discussion at the end of the presentation.
The program is free and open to the public.
The Dover Library has undergone an amazing technology upgrade! We received a generous additional $6000 dollars in bullet aid from Senator Sue Serino, and the money has been put toward purchasing 8 new touch screen computers for public access. The new touch screen computers are a welcome relief from the previous Windows XP computers that were no longer privy to Microsoft security updates or support. And the computers have Microsoft Office 365, which means we’ll always be able to offer patrons the latest version of Word, Excel, etc.
In 2016, 965 unique users used our public PCs for a total of 8,749 Internet sessions with over 5,028 total hours logged.
Thank you, Senator Serino! One-on-one assistance with navigating the new tech is available.
In late 2016 the Dover Plains Library was selected by the Mid-Hudson Library System to receive a $1200 grant for Kindle Paperwhites to be circulated—with a special interest in serving the active senior population in the community!!! The grant money was provided by New York State.
The Kindles have been pre-loaded with bestsellers, but special requests for specific books are also being accepted.
One-on-one tutoring is available. There is a $25 refundable security deposit, payable by cash or check. The loan period is 3 weeks. Stop in and check out a Kindle today!
The Dover Plains Library will soon host ESL classes on Tuesday nights!
Inglés como Segundo Idioma ( ESL) pronto comenzarán el martes por la noche en la Biblioteca de Dover Plains.
